Jeff’s Post – Reflections during a Taper

I’m in the midst of tapering in preparation for the Baltimore Marathon on October 15th.  I’m reducing my mileage and overall my legs feel really good.  My lingering foot issue also seems to be improving every day.  So although I still struggle with the whole “Taper” thing, I’m beginning to see the benefits.

I have been doing a lot of reflecting during my runs the past couple weeks as they lead up to my first marathon.  Discovering the joy of running has been an amazing experience for me.  I’ve been able to push past what I thought were my limits and that is an incredible feeling.  My mind and body are stronger than they have ever been thanks to running.  Early on Tamara said to me “Wow you are strong and you are fast”.  I’m far from the fastest and I’m not the strongest (I think of myself as an average runner with an above average commitment) but hearing those two things from an experienced runner that I have a ton of respect for helped me believe.

Kara Goucher mentioned this on her blog yesterday “With hard work, determination and proper preparation anything is possible”.  I couldn’t agree more!

6.5 treadmill miles this morning.  Have a great day and go for a run if you get a chance.
